Now that I'm older and hopefully wiser, I appreciate her insight and concern. I am amazed at how many young people that I speak with have major elimination issues. Many have told me that they only use the bathroom once or twice a week!! This is a recipe for disastrous outcomes. Just think about how many times you eat and don't release waste. That means that your system is holding on to toxins and the toxins are eventually going to affect your entire body. If your colon is full and toxic, it can't absorb nutrients needed for the body. It's purpose is to grab nutrients and move the waste out.
The current lifestyle most of us lead, doesn't positively affect our digestive system. Fast foods, white sugar, white flour and lack of enough clean water is creating back-up in our intestines. Are you suffering from blotting, gas, headaches, irritability and weight gain? These are symptoms of what is possibly taking place in our digestive systems, but don't fear. These things can be corrected with a few adjustments. What can greatly help is eating fresh fruit every morning (canned fruit does not work), enjoying vegetables every day, drinking more water, making sure that you eat food with fiber and occasionally taking a mild non habit forming herbal laxative. "Old School" mothers (like those of my mother's generation), would give their children a good dose of caster oil or black draught at the change of each season. They knew the importance of cleansing the system.
In addition to the two remedies listed above, when dealing with irregularity, warm prune juice works for both children and adults. I have had good success with Fletchers Castoria for my daughter. It is made from senna leaves, which is a good herb for constipation.
We must teach our children how to take care of their bodies. They need to know that if they don't eat right and have daily elimination, that will negatively affect their skin and overall health. In order for our outward appearance to look its best, we have to stress the importance of taking care of the inside of our bodies. Please visit a brief, but powerful lecture about "Disease in the Gut" by Dr. Maggie Covington on YouTube. She shares some helpful information. Don't neglect an appointment with your healthcare professional if digestive problems continue.
I am giving you information that has helped me. I too have suffered from a lazy digestive system. Please take this to heart because most diseases start in the colon. I hope that you digest this food for thought.
