My mother was a very wise woman. One of her "Mother Wit" expressions was, "This didn't just happen, it's has been coming a long time." When I consider my situation and where I am in so many areas of my life, I often think about my mother's statement.
Although this blog is tailored for my sisters, it can be applied to the brothers as well. Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror and wondered, "When did I start looking like this?" This is a negative approach, but there are some who look in the mirror and say, "Wow, looking good"! Either response is based on a prior history of either taking care of our body or not caring for it. If you don't pay attention to your health as well as anything else, things will start to happen. Monitoring our weight is essential, whether by the use of a scale or simply using the fit of our clothes as a measurement of whether or not we need to lose weight. Some people are very fortunate to have an metabolism that works very well. However, most of us have to work at it.
Muscles burn calories more efficiently; how is your muscle mass? Do you have toned arms, legs, back etc? If not, then you are not burning calories efficiently. Start building muscles by toning your core - stomach and back muscles. This group of muscles help to keep the body in better alignment. It concerns me to see so many young women with sagging stomachs. The outside is a window to what's taking place on the inside. Our girls have to be taught to take better care of their bodies. Older sisters have to set better examples. Are you not made aware of how nice it is to have toned arms after looking at our First Lady, Michelle Obama? Don't you think that you look better in short sleeve clothes with toned arms?
Whatever, your state of health, its been a long time coming. Let's not miss the importance of taking care of small details, like drinking water and eating fruits and vegetable every day. Making a choice to walk up the stairs, walk around the block, dig in the garden, clean our homes, and other physical activities are all important steps in maintaining good vibrant health.
Remember, whatever your state of your body.....it's been a long time coming!
